My New Year's Resolution: To Make More Music

My New Year's Resolution: To Make More Music

As the new year approaches, I find myself reflecting on the creative energy that shaped my past and dreaming of the music I’ve yet to create. This year, my resolution is simple but powerful: to make more music.

Music has always been a part of my life, whether as a listener, a performer, or a creator. But like many passions, it often takes a backseat to life’s other responsibilities. Between work, family, and the endless distractions of the modern world, the time I’ve spent with my instruments has dwindled. This year, I’m committed to changing that.

Why Music?

Music is more than just a pastime. It’s therapy, connection, and self-expression all rolled into one. Creating music isn’t just about producing a song—it’s about capturing a moment, a feeling, a story. It’s about the joy of exploring new sounds and challenging myself to grow as an artist.

Music allows me to connect with others in a way words alone cannot. Whether it’s through sharing a piece I’ve written or collaborating with fellow musicians, music builds bridges and creates shared experiences.

How I Plan to Make It Happen

Resolutions often falter without a plan, so I’m setting myself up for success with clear goals and actionable steps. Here’s how:

  1. Set Aside Dedicated Time
I’ll carve out specific blocks of time each week for music, whether it’s an hour of practicing guitar, experimenting with new software, or writing lyrics.
  2. Embrace Imperfection
One of the biggest obstacles to creating is the fear that it won’t be “good enough.” This year, I’ll focus on progress, not perfection. Every chord, every lyric, every beat is a step forward.
  3. Learn Something New
To keep things exciting, I’ll challenge myself to learn a new instrument, explore a different genre, or master a new production technique. Growth happens outside the comfort zone.
  4. Share More Often
Music is meant to be shared. Whether through social media, open mic nights, or collaborating with friends, I’ll put my work out into the world, imperfections and all.

The Bigger Picture

Making more music isn’t just about me. It’s about contributing to a world where creativity thrives, where art brings people together, and where self-expression is celebrated. By committing to this resolution, I’m investing in my own well-being and hopefully inspiring others to do the same.

As the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, I’ll be holding onto this resolution tightly. Here’s to a year filled with melodies, rhythms, and the joy of creation. What’s your New Year’s resolution? If it involves creativity, let’s embark on this journey together.
