According to Paulo Freire, education should be based on dialogue and the participation of students in their own educational process. He argued that education had to be liberating, helping everyone to free themselves from social oppressions. For Freire, education is a political practice that can transform and empower people. Freire advocated for an education that promoted political engagement, social commitment, and transformation of reality. Freire saw the traditional educational system as a place where oppression and inequality were perpetuated and proposed a pedagogical approach called "liberating education" or "popular education" that sought to promote social justice.
